Just be Yourself: UK Business Grad Runs Nasi Lemak Stall at Newton Circus
Posted: June 25, 2010 Filed under: Just be yourself 1 Comment »In this age of citizen journalism, aspiring Singapore journalists have no qualms about intruding on the private space of their fellow citizens just to score article space on Stomp. Of course, you could argue that these individuals should know better than to perform very private acts in public (such as sitting on their boyfriends in MRT trains). But when the spirit that informs citizen journalism is voyeuristic, holier-than-thou and mean-spirited, there is cause for concern. Stomp’s citizen journalists should publish their pictures and provide their background rather than hide behind the cloak of anonymity. They love exposing others yet lack the integrity to expose their true selves. This undermines the “moral” intent behind their postings.
Occasionally, however, there are heartwarming stories, such as the story about a UK business grad who chose to run a nasi lemak stall at Newton Circus. I respect individuals who break out of the traditional mould to carve out a living. As usual, the comments are inane and spiteful. Losers may gripe, but winners just get on with the business of living – and inspiring.
