Orchard Road Flood – gripping footage
Posted: June 16, 2010 Filed under: Singapore This Morning 3 Comments »The online citizen journalists were out in full force today to capture footages of the devastating floods at Orchard Road. Today’s floods expose our unpreparedness for a natural disaster of this scale, but of course, the respective statutory boards can be expected to deflect criticism as usual.
Here’s a gripping footage of the scene at Orchard Road. Fast forward to see a man wading into Wendy’s before being yelled at by the police. But really, if he’s the franchise owner, shouldn’t we be more sympathetic?
Where is Noah when you need him? How did an old man like that possibly catch two kampung chickens?
A lot of the buildings there have basements with many nice shops like Jason’s Deli. This is very bizzare and not something that I would have ever anticipated.
And yes, people should be more sympathetic. The woman falling down, no one seemed to worry about her. Everyone seemed to think it was funny. Of course, the people of Singapore are very strong, and by the scale of the tsunami in Indonesia, this is not a very big disaster. But it does make me reflect on an ancient Persian proverb about “Things that we don’t know… and don’t know that we don’t know.” So what I am saying is “I would not be so ‘ya ya pa pa yah’ about it. I know you are a writer, so please do not critize me for using so many double negatives.
I wouldn’t dare to criticise an ancient Persian proverb.
