Three Reasons why the Singapore Government has More to Fear from Church Leaders than Transsexuals

If you have been following my blog, you would know that churches and transsexuals are my two pet topics (and not shoes as some people think).  This week, Singapore’s sizeable Christian community is awash with, not oil, but shocking news that the police have hauled 17 staff members from City Harvest, one of our largest and wealthiest charismatic churches, for questioning.  The probe?  Alleged misuse of church funds.  Now it is not with wicked delight that I’m decending on this church, because they haven’t been known to torment transgender folk unlike some of their counterparts.  Using the example of this church, I will present my thoughts on why the Singapore government has more to fear from church leaders than transsexuals.

Three Reasons why the Singapore Government has more to fear from church leaders than transsexuals

1.  The church can easily and rapidly mobilise tens of thousands of its congregation to its cause, whereas you could hardly get three transsexuals to march in line.

According to the Straits Times today, “City Harvest, which was registered as a society in 1992…has since grown into a congregation of some 33,000.”  That’s an impressive 33,000 Singaporeans who do not need funny names like “naked eagle” to be mobilised for action.  The Singapore Armed Forces could learn a thing or two huh?

2.  Church leaders draw the unquestioning trust of their young, educated congregation, whereas there’s no such thing as an educated, trusting transsexual.  We just don”t exist.

According to Straits Times, ”undergraduate Teo Chin Ghee, 21, who has attended the church for the last four years, said she ‘never expected’ such a probe would take place.

‘I trust the leadership of the church. I think they’re as transparent as they can be (regarding finances),’ she said.”

3.  Church leaders use hotel rooms to indoctrinate the masses - we just use them for sex

It is well known that some churches in Singapore use non-”churchy” facilities such as cinema complexes and hotel rooms to indoctrinate the masses, whereas transgender women use these venues for their intended purposes, such as watching movies and having sex, respectively.  So who’s going against the natural order of things?

Now, ST has reported that City Harvest is also under probe for its ” controversial $310million stake in Suntec City”, a mega shopping and convention centre.  Ladies and gentlemen, when transgender women go to a shopping centre, we shop.  We don’t go there with the intention of buying over the mall, do we?

Clearly the Singapore government has nothing to fear from transsexuals here.  Rebellion is way too taxing for our nails and heels.  Besides, our concerns are usually petty, such as being thrown out of night spots and being caught with our pants down in Comfort cabs.  To think that people still think of us as negative influences.  Tsk tsk.

As a parting gift (or shot), here’s a video clip of City Harvest’s pastor’s interpretation of a biblical verse.  Now, I wouldn’t play this for my lecturers at York who esteem the bible as  a great literary work apart from being a religious text.

    Ahhh, true but …
You see the Govt is afraid of the Church. But unfortunately, the Church is afraid of us transgenders. Hence, the Govt has to to be afraid of us for the fear we engender in the Church.
    Hmmm, think about it …

Wah, it called that a religios sermon ?

To me, it appears more like a brainwashing session.

Can be dangerous, if you look at it from a different angle.
