Found my dream hairstylist

It is said that a woman’s hair is sacrosanct.  When the then Health Minister Lim Hng Kiang compared the price of a mammogram with that of a hairdo, the usually demure Lily Neo flared up and took him to task for being sacrilegious.  I agree.  I would go further to say that all a woman needs is a good haircut to instantly transform her looks. 

For years I’ve yearned for Jennifer Anniston’s fuss-free yet sexy hairstyle, and for years none of the hairstylists I’ve patronised have been able to achieve my desired look – until I met Alvin from Trimmings. 

I was searching the internet for information on hairstyles when I came across Trimmings’ vanilla pretty website.  I was attracted to the reviews page.  One lady’s review, in particular, caught my eye.  She said that Alvin’s trim just made her hair fall naturally into place.  Hmm…that was the look and feel I desired. 

What ultimately won me over was the salon’s location – Loewen Cluster.  Loewen cluster is located at Tanglin Village, just around the corner from the famous Dempsey hill.  The trip to Loewen cluster takes you past a light green colonial house nestled in evergreen foliage.  Located at the quiet end of Loewen Cluster is a tree-dotted compound consisting of a kindergarten, a cafe, a spa and Trimmings, which is sandwiched between the spa and the kindergarten.  So neatly concealed was Trimmings that I almost gave up looking for the place when Alvin himself approached me at the door. 

I was ushered into the adorable salon where a middle-aged lady served me tea before started the ritual with a relaxing hair wash and scalp massage.  Alvin took a quick look at my hair and was spot on about it being thick and prone to fizziness.  He also rightly noticed that I had been treating and colouring my hair with henna.  He recommended a quick trim and light layers to reveal my highlights and reduce the fizziness whilst preserving the length of my hair.

It did not take long for Alvin to work his magic.  In a matter of 20 mins, he had produced the fuss-free look I’ve always desired.  At the same time the cut allowed my hairlights to shine through.  Even my mum whom I met later wondered if I had just highlighted my hair.  She loved the sensual, healthy bounce of my hair and the way it now caresses my face. 

I’m sold on Alvin’s fast, efficient manner and his spot on analysis of just the hairdo I need.   No more weird fringes and unflattering hairstyles for me!

What I also love is Alvin did not pressurise me to purchase any haircare products or additional services – which means I can continue with my affordable herbal hair treatments in peace!
